With this installation you can learn more about the graves and the traditions of the Linear Pottery Culture. A few artefacts of this culture are displayed, like a print of a corpse and pots, and an interactive video is played inside the display with a projector. Whenever a hand is visible, you can wave your hands over the display and the next sequence begins.

Streekmuseum Elsloo is a small village museum with different themes. The museum receives visitors of different ages. However, they would like to attract more children and young people and make the museum more future-proof. In the current situation, the museum mainly consists of exhibitions with display cases and the guided tours are given by volunteers. The museum wants to renew the exhibition of the Linear Pottery Culture.
The aim of this research is to design an interactive museum installation for the visitors of Streekmuseum Elsloo that informs them about the Linear Pottery Culture. The research question that has been asked for this is: how do you design an interactive museum installation about the Linear Pottery Culture for visitors of Streekmuseum Elsloo? The research has a partial focus on children and young people.
In order to answer the research question, secondary and primary research has been carried out. Research has been done of museum installations, the target group, the current situation at the museum and the Linear Pottery Culture. One of the main results of the research is that visitors increasingly see museums as an experience. They come there not only for the knowledge about a subject, but also for certain interactions. These can be, for example, social or physical interactions.
The research has led to the design of a prototype. This prototype has been tested with the target group and improvements have resulted from this.
The prototype of the museum installation has proven to work in this form. An important part, which will have a lot of influence on the experience of the museum installation, is the introduction to the Linear Pottery Culture of the entire exhibition. Further research will have to be done on how the installation and the rest of the exhibition can be properly coordinated.
